Meigetsu-in

Fugenzan Meigetsu-in (福源山明月院) is a RinzaiZen temple of the Kenchō-ji school in Kita-Kamakura, Kanagawa, Japan. It was built in 1160, which has a long history of 860 years. From spring to winter, it has a variety of flowers for visitors to enjoy, such as cherry blossoms, hydrangea, maple leaves, camellia and winter plum.   Most famous for its hydrangeas. From May to July each year, blue hydrangea blooms quietly, spreading all over the temple. Many tourists will come here especially. Therefore, it's also known as The Temple of Hydrangeas.

In addition, its classical art form “ Dry Landscape” is also famous around the world. Dry Landscape is one of the most common art forms in Japanese gardens, mainly sand and stone. The "water" is usually represented by finesand and gravel paving, while the "mountain" is usually represented by stones, creating a Zen charm. In the courtyard, the trees, rocks, sky, and land all have special meanings. For practitioners, various types of stones represent islands, the textured white sand represents the sea, and the green plants symbolize the earth. A few simple elements can create a spectacular world view.
